Today I want to celebrate the completion of this group signature quilt and tell you more about it. Spearheaded by Fran Mitchum, this group quilt was made by members of the Crafty Gemini Quilt Club that attended the first ever quilt retreat hosted by the Crafty Gemini, Vanessa Wilson at Luther Springs in Hawthorne, Florida. Thursday, May 1, 2014. Back in January Mitch and I talked about one for her birthday in May. Time was running out, so I decided to do a tie quilt. He suggested solids in purple, yellow and turquoise. I realised that although I posted on instagram, I never showed you the finished result of my experiment with upholstery fabric sample scraps. I ended up with two very different approaches - one quilted simply in the ditch and one a combination of machine quilting with some full on hand embroidery in perle cotton.
